Are you still operational through COVID-19?

Some of the most frequently asked questions are, "Are you currently offering services? Can you still help us due to the Covid-19 outbreak? Are you taking COVID-19 precautions?" The answer to all of the above is, "YES! We will never leave clients behind." Pandemic or not, life marches on and families are continuing to bring home babies, and these babies still come with uncertainty, hard work and fatigue. We have implemented COVID-19 protocols as safety is the highest priority for you and your family.

What is a Newborn Care Specialist?

A Newborn Care Specialist is an individual like myself specially trained and extremely skilled in newborn care. We are more than your average nannies. Through years of experience, we have mastered the ins and outs of newborn development and have specialized newborn training. We provide unique expertise in all aspects of newborn care, parental education and support.

How long and often will I need nighttime help?

While there is not a minimum or maximum of nights required, it will greatly depend on your newborn(s), their needs as well as yours. We have found most clients utilize us for 8-12 weeks at a time.

If I have chosen to breastfeed, how does this work during the evening?

If you have chosen to breastfeed, we will either bottle feed with your milk or bring the baby to you for feedings during the night and then care for the infant post-feeding with burping and diapering if needed, allowing you (and baby) to get back to sleep.

What hours do you typically work?

We generally offer night nursing from 9 pm – 6 am, although we make every effort to accommodate your requests. We like to familiarize ourselves with your home, your baby's feeding schedule/routine, etc. Ideally we get all the particulars squared away before baby even arrives.

When should I start the hiring process?

Newborn Care Specialists are typically booked out months in advance, as they cannot start a new job while contracted with someone else. As soon as you are certain you want to hire an NCS, you should start the hiring process to ensure their schedule is open for the months you want service.

What are the typical duties of a Newbord Care Specialist?

While there may be some flexibility in what services we offer, below are the duties we most often fulfill. We are always happy to discuss and develop specific plans that fit the needs of my clients.

  • Bathing (sponge/full).
  • Diapering (sponge/full).
  • Dressing and swaddling.
  • Umbilical cord and circumcision care.
  • Assisting with bottle feeding and burping.
  • Settling a baby to sleep.
  • Offering lactation support.
  • Maintaining, cleaning and sterilizing bottles.
  • Nurturing interactions with the baby.
  • Establishing an optimal sleep/wake schedule and ideal eating routines.
  • Soothing and addressing infant discomfort.
  • Doing baby's laundry (diapers, clothing, bedding).
  • Organizing, stocking and tidying the nursery.
  • Educating and guiding parents on newborn care, particularly sleeping and feeding.

Why should my family choose you?

We understand that each family and baby is special and unique, which is why everything we do is customized to your family's needs and goals prenatally through the newborn stage and beyond. Safe sleep, happy bellies and a well rested mom are some of the things that are most important to me, and our job is to get your child sleeping through the night, in a safe sleep environment.

Notes For A Nightingale

Sometimes you need more than an article or a jotted note to help you where you are. Sometimes you need something you can print out and refer back to, scribble on and have all in one place.
